A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK.

P4220012

It’s funny, you know, these early season games, which is why I love them so much, and will diligently trek out to Flushing with a suitcase full of winter clothes, even in April. Monday was the night everyone wanted to be there, and Monday was the night which was unspectacular, except in its heartbreak. Who would have thought that Tuesday night’s game would have been The One? I was in class, and didn’t get home until almost 11, and then the DVR wasn’t set to go past 9:30. At 9:30, things were looking up, but it wasn’t the end of the story.

So I had to go to the internets to see the final outcome - honestly not expecting to see anything good - and almost dropped the laptop when saw the final score. Then I frantically started flipping through Sportscenter and MLB Network to try to find highlights. Extra innings? We came back? A walkoff win? I stayed up way too late when I was falling asleep on my feet just so I could see it for myself.

Who is this team? Do I know them?

We keep looking for a turning point. We need there to be a turning point, some assurance that this year will not degenerate into 2007 or 2008 once again. One more game. Okay, win one more. Okay, a winning streak. Are we there yet? I think we’re getting closer, at least. They did not give up. They did not stop fighting. That fight until the last out is the ingredient that was missing from the previous two years. It’s not pretty and it will cause all the cardiologists in New York City to see an uptick in their clientele but I am fine with these late game wins as long as there’s a W at the end of it.

I went onto my blog this morning to write something similar but got distracted. A come from behind, extra-innings, luck-on-our side, kind of win! Who is this team?! :)

I suggest getting MLB.TV. Since you live in the area and don’t have to pay for SNY it may not seem worth it. But its a better buy than MLB Extra Innings on TV. For $100 all the games are automatically DVRed. You can do traditional fast forwarding or jump to the start of any half inning and you can choose to listen to the fan or SNY and of course it works any where you have an internet connection. (I watch weekday games while supervising detention)

I suggest it for any out of market fan. But like I said for you the point is moot because you’re not an out of market fan.

As far as a turning point goes I’m still looking back at May 4th, the beginning of the last winning streak. They were down 3-0 thru the fifth Wright and Beltran both hit two run shots in 6th. They showed fight that inning, but more importantly they came back in seventh and put up another two on Beltran’s second blast. They could have rested on the one run lead and trusted the shinny new bullpen but instead they worked kept on the gas and scored a few more. Like I said then the rain out/travel nightmare the night before may have been a bonding point. They seem more loose on the bench and are starting to loosen in the field and at the plate, and are already a little to loose on the base paths.

Things are looking up. But then again I always say that.

now that they dropped the price, i was really considering it. i could have a baseball game on all the time, but TBF, funnily enough, doesn’t really share that proclivity. So I think about doing it and then I know I have enough problems being able to make time to watch the Mets. I have gameday audio, too.

It’s a lot of money to spend on something i only watch occasionally. and last night hte problem was just a bad setting on the dvr.

Actually after thinking about it I remembered its a real bad move for in market folks.

They block live viewing of any in market teams based on your credit card zip code. So i can’t watch the Reds. I guess they do this because it is commercial free (blank screen during inning breaks) and they think that in market fans will fore go the cable option and watch MLB.TV just to avoid the commercials, which is asinine.

I’ve learned with a Mets game to always go for 3 hours on the DVR.  Certain other teams you may want 4+.  I also have MLB.TV (buyer beware on technical issues and you can’t watch live games if you have or should have SNY or WPIX) to fill in the blanks in my scorecard in case I need to get up during the game.

I was there so none of that mattered anyway to me.  I think the game ended just after 10, so you would have missed the ending if you went until 10.

Matt, I’ve been reading a whole forum about MLB.TV and how many people feel ripped off there.

I’ve got a brand new iMac with the video card upgrade so i’m sure that helps with the technical issues…
