AND THE 2007 MVP IS…

The fans.

I’m still not ready to write about today’s game, but I wanted to put up something, and what I decided I wanted to put up was photos of everything EXCEPT the players. We were there all season, giving the Mets the highest attendance record in the history of the franchise, and making them untold amounts of $$$$$ in the process. The fans, who were waiting in line, begging for tickets; who brought signs and banners and whistles; and, when they couldn’t get into the stadium, stood on the steps to the 7 train rotunda just for a glimpse of the field.

Some highlights are below, but please check out the rest of the set, too. (I’d put a slideshow together but it slows down the main page of the site too much when I do.)

I’ll write about the game later, for closure if nothing else.

Perfect photos—crying a little bit onto the keyboard…

Yeah - I totally agree.  Though I think we knew all along what the end would bring, we never stopped believing for a second.  I love you!  Thanks for stopping by.  I will always hold the 2007 baseball season as a special year for all the wonderful people I’ve met (like you :-) ) as a result of this “hobby” LOL, and although it didn’t turn out the way we thought it would, these memories hold a special place in my heart.

Love the pics… and you’re right—the fans ARE the MVP!!
Today was heartbreaking… I got a field level ticket at the last minute (literally at 12:30) and was so optimistic as I rode the train there… by the time I sat down, it was already 4-0.
When it was over, I just sat and cried for a while. I just can’t believe it’s over. Like you, I’m not ready to writeabout it yet, but I have plenty to say when I am…
Thanks for all your great posts… reading your blog was a lot of fun this season :-)

The last picture sums the day up real well.

As a former downstater and Mets fans since birth, I have never felt so low in long, long time. I was hoping to get in at least one game this year, but that never happened. Neither did a team that had a great shot of taking it all. Sure, the yankee fans will gloat, but their “fans” will never have the same type of heart in the game as the Mets fans do. The only other team/fans on par with us are the Cubs and their fans. Hopefully Omar and the rest will finally wake up and realize what a precious gift they have in front of them. In the meantime, Go Cubs!, Go Bosox! and thankyou for the pix, they say it all. Let’s Go Mets in ‘08 Don’t Let This Season Pass You By!!

All that’s seen in these pictures, and the way you’re all supporting each other and the game?  That’s what baseball is truly about.

It’s a rarity, and it’s a pleasure to see, even with the dire end to the season.

Your Cubs had better KICK THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS outta the P——-s.

From your lips to the Baseball Gods ears…

I’m sorry, metsgrrl.  Really and truly. Thought about you as the game went topsy-turvy today.

great pics.  we all deserved better than what we got.  yet, somehow i felt oddly relieved last night—probably because i knew i wouldn’t have to suffer one more humiliating mets’ loss in ‘07.  plus i can get back to reading books and watching the ridiculous amounts of decent new shows on the teevee.  and still, i can’t wait until spring training.  sigh.  the life of a mets fan…

texy, thanks for the note. i appreciate it. and i’m happy for you, in some odd way.

the phils wanted it. the mets didn’t. it’s that simple.

i just wish brett myers wasn’t on that team.

Well, the rumor is that the Mets AAA tema will be back in the IL, and hopefully moving to Syracuse. Toronto has not been supporting the Chiefs for many a year.. Yes, it’s going to be tough, but if there is a silver lining, we can see a new generation of Mets here in my backyard..and if Omar is in town, I’ll make sure he gets an earful. :)
