beltran at the bat

I don’t know how I found this, somewhere through the server logs, and it is so very well done (although, of course, so sad; the fact that it is so well done makes it even sadder to me); the adaptation from a science fiction writer.

Some people blog when the Mets lose, others adapt poetry.

It is funny to see in the comments people who clearly do not realize that it is a loving tribute to this work.

I’m glad you appreciated the poem.

I think most of the people who commented were aware that it was a rewrite of Thayer’s “Casey at the Bat”; that poem is such a significant part of American culture that it’s almost unnecessary for people to acknowledge it.  But what amused me is that frankly, most of the poem I posted was Thayer’s, and he deserves all credit for it; I just changed a few key verses.
