Standing in the Highline Ballroom, following the game on ESPN, we wondered why the hell “Lo Duca ejected” took, like, 30 minutes. It wasn’t until just now when we got home and fast-forwarded to the 6th inning that we got to enjoy it in all its glory. And we disagreed heartily with Gary’s comments how this wasn’t what the Mets needed right now. I’d say this is *exactly* what the Mets needed right now.

being atthe game I didn’t get a good commentary on it, but I think Gary meant it’s not what the Mets need right now this inning/tied game, not right now in the season, which I think he made some concession too.
I think Gary was more concerned with the fact that with Lo Duca gone, we were down to Ramon Castro behind the dish. Our emergency catcher is Jose Valentin who has that horrible brace on his knee and hasn’t caught since he was 16.
For whatever reason, good to see the sweep, and hopefully the offense can continue to do well against the Cardinals.
So this is the part where I say, hey guys, I actually *did* realize that that was not a great part of the game for Lo Duca to have gotten himself thrown out, but that wasn’t what I was writing about. I threw together a quick 1am post about his outburst. Not a six page analysis of its impact on the game at that moment.
As Bob Sikes has reminded us, Lo Duca and Wright are the players who have been taking the brunt of the media heat after every game. I’ll give him a pass here. Yeah, i know Ramon Castro is even slower than Moises Alou.
And enough people have written in to say that they 1) agreed and 2) heard Gary sort of correct himself on Sunday, and finally 3) the guy in the house who actually knows something about baseball also interpreted Gary’s comment the same way I did. So we’ll have to agree to disagree here.
Honestly, is there a good time in the game to get thrown out? Unless you’re a SP and you’re getting yourself thrown out in the 7th or 8th when you weren’t coming back next inning anyway. So in the ‘this inning/at bat’ scheme of things, its always a bad time. Which for the most part, brings us to the big picture, in which it was a good time. A lets get fired up, get angry, play hard, stoop losing time.
And in the end, they won. With castro as the scoring run. So seems like it worked out.
