GOING, GOING….

...almost gone:

IMG_0199

We were coming back from Long Island, and TBF made a comment about this was the route he always used to drive to Shea in his younger days, and we came around the corner and I said, “Hey, I can see the Citi Field sign from here” and then, silence, and then: “I wonder how much of it is left.”

“It’s just one more exit.”

It was eerie and odd, and yet we were not the only ones slowing our car down (although the only ones getting out of it). Tonight we said goodbye, although we thought we said it once, twice, this was it. It was standing there waving, as though it was a living, breathing sentient being: “Goodbye, Shea,” and blowing the ruins a kiss as we got into the car and drove away from Shea for the very last time.

verry sad indeed - just saw video from yesterdays demolition and it is heart wrenching - she was more than concrete and plastic she was like ugly betty - sure aesteticly she was dumpy - but she had a heart and soul that once you made it through the tunnel and you saw the field - you saw her inner beauty - sorry i know im rambling - but i cant beliee she is almost gone

Drove by Shea this morning en route north (was not the driver so I could not get out, the driver was a Yankee fan anyway so he wasn’t going to stop)-it was a jaw-dropping expereience. The only thing that I could relate to this in terms of seeing something there and returning a short time later to NOT see it there was walking by Ground Zero for the first time after 9/11 (my last visit to the WTC was on 8/25/01, first trip after was in spring of ‘02).  Thankfully there was no great loss of life here, but still.. The last time I drove by in January most of the stadium (at least on the outside) was still left.  Now this.

It won’t be long now.
