Also via Joan Walsh, Salon’s “The 18 best Jewish ballplayers.” Avoid the comments if you don’t want to be reminded how terrible people can be. As the girl who avidly leapt upon Dave Marsh’s list of Top 10 Jewish Rock Stars, the vitriol is—well, racism and anti-semitism will probably always surprise me, and I guess that’s a good thing (that I’m not numb to it at this point, not the existence of racism and anti-semitism).

well, i’m sure referring to youkilis as jewkilis won’t help rid the world of anti-semitism but denis leary has never been known for his healing powers. and maybe i’m too sensitive, but i’ve often felt that mets’ fans’ vitriol toward shawn green has been a little on the anti-semitic side. but then again, as a typical self-hating jew, i usually let my wife know when shawn green does something good by yelling “the jew boy got a hit!” i hope after last night’s 3-4 performance, people will start giving shawn a little slack.
oh, and about my prediction last week that the mets would be in 3rd place by the end of today? i was just trying to motivate the players (who we all know are big readers of metsgrrl). guess my strategy worked perfectly.
and today, i think for the first time in my life, i actually got excited about an atlanta braves’ rally. life sure is crazy…
See, Leary doesn’t bother me, and maybe it’s a double standard or something but I know he’s not a anti-semite so it’s okay if he’s sitting with his Jewish friend and making jokes about Youkilis. It bothers me more that Dennis Leary takes up all the parking spaces in Greenpoint with alarming regularity, to be honest.
if i ever heard that any met even read any blog on the internets i would keel over. and until i start learning how to escribe en espanol, chances of this site attracting any traffic is slim and none. frankly, i’m okay with that. i mean, i don’t writeit for them, if that makes any sense.
ha, I remember seeing this when it first aired, and i remember being a bit peeved that stewart was going on about youkilis, when HELLO he’s a mets fan. and HELLO we have our own perfectly loveable Jew.
And…oy…it’s possible I was planning a “Why I think Shawn Green is hot” post for the off day. And it might involve slow motion. And tongue action.
