link exchanges

I don’t do link exchanges. I don’t do them because I do not believe in them.

I have never asked for anyone to link to my blog. I link to blogs I like and read and want to share with my readers (all six of them), irregardless whether or not they link to me. I hope that if you like my blog, and would like to share it with your readers, you will link to me. There are a trillion Mets blogs out there. It is impossible to read them all and it is not probable that you are going to like them all. I think that every Mets blog having the same list of links is boring and pointless.

I *will* write about your blog, or mention it, or reference it, or link to it, when there is something on it that makes me laugh, cry, smile or think, or if it makes me angry. The very existence of your brand-new blog (which has not even launched yet, but is soon going to be the most up-to-date, awesome Mets blog ever!) is not reason enough for me to write about it.

Before you ask, “Well, how are people supposed to find my blog if everyone who has spent the last X years working really hard to build a readership doesn’t link to me!” Please realize that it is not mandatory, required or necessary. I didn’t write to anyone when my blog started (or even worse, before it had started), saying, “I am starting a blog in two weeks! Please link to me!” I just wrote, and I linked to people I liked, and sooner or later, people started coming and reading, and they liked it so they linked to it.

There are equally a number of people who do not like my blog and do not link to me. There are also people I link to who do not link to me.  I do not lose sleep over this. I care very little about my Alexa rating or my Technorati ranking. I care very much about creating a site that has value to me. That is my standard of success

And finally, if you have never ever read my site, but want me to link to you, please save yourself the time and trouble and ask somewhere else.

p.s. I do not care about your Facebook group. Sorry.
