NEW DAY RISING.

What a completely cowardly way to do this. Another strike against Omar. At least the clock is ticking for him now, too.

Now what?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

So in his last four games as Mets manager, the man with the second-highest winning percentage in team history won 3, and lost the other by one run.  For this, he was rewarded with a 3:00 AM (East Coast Time) sacking, after having flown 3000 miles with the ballclub the night before.

As the Ole Perfessor, Casey, used to say: “Can’t anybody here play this game?”

In unrelated news, GM Omar Minaya announced the signing of free agent Minnie Minoso to a long-term deal.

I had much the same thought about Omar. In my thought, though, the ticking clock he should worry about is probably connected by wires to his ignition switch on one end and a car bomb on the other.

Rexlic’s comment only reinforced that image. “Can’t Anybody Here Play this Game” was the title of Jimmy Breslin’s essential work on the Mets’ first season. Breslin later wrote the novel which formed the basis for the movie titled The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight, a pre-Godfather Mafia parody which includes a scene where the Don sends his poor sainted wife out to start his car so she’ll be the victim of the bomb blast.

Somehow, sending Willie out next to Hollywood for this “whacking” seems eerily appropriate.

(Thanks again for the prize, btw:)

we should have known from those comments on sunday that they were going to do the deed in Cali. He was so flustered. Even for Omar, it was a remarkably non-comment comment.

it still doesn’t matter. we still have damion easley, luis castillo FOR FOUR YEARS, carlos delgado being angry and insolent, and david wright flailing because of lack of leadership, and and and and and.

willie gone changes none of that.

Cowards.

I hope this means they will continue to shake things up by getting rid of some of the broken down vets.

NOTHING will get better until they bring someone with some baseball savoir-faire and common sense into the executive boardroom.  I’ve had stop-offs for a six-pack executed with more careful consideration and long-term thought than this latest travesty.
