“SWEET CAROLINE” IS BACK!

Apparently “Sweet Caroline” showed up in the 5th inning today. Enough is enough.

If you want to put a stop to this, now is the time to act. Writing on this blog - or any web site - is not going to get their attention. Every letter, email or phone call will. I am asking you to take three minutes to write to Mets Fan Feedback or use their web form. Feel free to use the message below. Leave a message in the comments if you contacted the Mets about this.

To whom it may concern:

I was delighted to see you get rid of “Sweet Caroline” at Friday’s game against the Marlins. Many members of the media wrote about this extensively, since the song is generally reviled by most Mets fans, and your insistence in forcing it upon us is starting to grate upon everyone. However, I was disappointed to hear the song again on Saturday. There are hundreds if not thousands of songs that would be fine sing-a-long numbers, none of which are strongly associated with other teams, and many of which would be far more appropriate for New York City and the New York Mets than “Sweet Caroline”. Please put your in-game media team to work and find another song.

As a sign of solidarity between us out of market folks and you “game-goers”, I just sent and email. I’m considering working on a full length letter similar to your Letter #3, because the stadium on TV lacks even more identity than it does in person. I wonder how the Ohio postmark and return address will affect the way they view it.

It’s bad enough that people wear Red Sox Caps in Citi (something that should be verbally discouraged at every opportunity), but having to listen to Sweet Caroline just completes the feeling of being in a little town in Mass. instead of at a Mets game in NYC.

I attended Saturday’s game, and was kind of shocked / disappointed that management snuck “Sweet Caroline” back in as part of the Pepsi Party Patrol T-Shirt launch…

I am going to write and recommend “The Curly Shuffle” be the Pepsi Party Patrol song.

Someone with the club must have one for Neil Diamond, or can’t get over his or her Boardy Barn Days.

Cheers!

I was at Sunday’s game and “Sweet Caroline” did not make the play list for the entire game.  In the 8th inning, they played “Meet the Mets” (2 verses) and everyone seemed happy about that!!

why do I have this awful image in my head of Jeffey Skill Set sitting in his room with his record player and 45’s listening to Neil Diamond and thinking he was the coolest kid on the block

Did you see on mets.com where it says that they want our opinion re the eighth inning singalong and are going to do a poll next week?  Good job Caryn!
