THE RANGERS HAD A HOMECOMING.

I think the point at which it should have dawned on us that the weather was NOT clearing and the game was not going to be played was this:

Or maybe this:

But really, THIS was the clue that we should start heading down the ramps and going home:

DSC_0076

[Don’t worry, it was the Rangers, not the Mets.]

I can’t fault the Mets tonight, honestly, because the rain did appear to be moving through earlier, and we told everyone we ran into that the game would be played, no, the storm was moving through. We sogged through Astoria and the N train and the 7 train and the upper deck, and sat with the finest folks ever in the upper deck, waiting out the rain. We chanted LET’S GO METS, and JOSE, JOSE JOSE, and called for the beer man, we sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” we commented on the irony that Friday night was towel night while tonight we were all carefully guarding our Official Shea Stadium Replicas from Nathan’s. We considered calling Ed Coleman (who was taking calls) and asking him where the beer man was, and could he have someone send him upstairs.

We applauded the lightning. We applauded the thunder. We applauded ourselves for being a fine and witty collection of Mets fans.

We moved to the top of the upper deck when we arrived, where we sat and played cards ...and then back down to our row as they started to roll the tarp up…and then all the way back up as soon as we noticed the sheets of rain falling in right field. Rain Delay Theater got turned off because they wanted everyone in the concourse…where there was no room and it was flooded and we watched repeated hordes of security running along the walkway to head into a tunnel to break up something. People were in good spirits, because it was warm and it was a Saturday and probably because everyone knows that some day they will be sitting at home, watching a rain delay at Citi Field, and will turn to their S.O. or their kid or their friend and say, Remember that Saturday night in June when we sat at the top of the upper deck and watched the rain fall? Yeah, the Mets sucked then but we had a great time that night.

your title made me smile.  #...in harlem late last night…#

And speaking of the rangers having a homecoming, the NY Rangers won their last cup and subsequently first cp in 54 years 14 years ago yesterday.  :)

that was brought up by a few folks, especially when people started chanting “let’s go rangers” during the slip-n-slide (we drew the line at that).

So my tickets from last night will not be honored for any game this season, but the folks at today’s doubleheader get two games for the price of one? As they say on the net: WTF?

Posted by Dykstra was a king!  on  06/15  at  04:30 PM

of course they can’t honor your tickets at another game this season - they may have sold that seat to someone else. you can however exchange it for another seat, or get your money back. only constraint is that it must be for 2008 and not for 2009, and previously the raincheck policy was for the current season and the next season.

we’re happily taking our $40 and putting it into the fund for next year… just in case

My mistake. I should have phrased my bellyaching a little better. My tickets last night were part of the Mets Seven Pack. It says on the tickets “No Refunds No Exchanges.”

When I heard that today was an old-fashioned doubleheader (two games for the price of one) my temper got the better of me.

But I still can’t figure out why Seven Pack tickets are not refundable or exchangeable.

Posted by Dykstra was a king!  on  06/15  at  08:51 PM

Dude, I have no love for the Mets ticketing office, but this is apparently a stated condition of the 7-packs. I don’t know why, but I’d be calling the Mets to complain, and I wouldn’t buy a 7-pack in the future because of the refund policy. I agree it’s bs but they do tell you that up front. Has nothing to do with last night or what happened last night, and in your case, they certainly tried to play that game.

Posted by metsgrrl  from  Brooklyn, NY  on  06/15  at  09:09 PM

are you sure about that?  mets.com says “Tickets for Saturday night’s game will not be honored at either of Sunday’s games, but can be used for any other game during the 2008 season—depending on availability.”  i would go try to exchange them and see what happens.

speaking of, how do we do this exchange?  at the shea ticket office?

Posted by mia  on  06/16  at  12:06 PM

That’s an interesting point, Mia. It does say that 7 packs are not returnable or exchangable but maybe that doesn’t appy in case of rainout - that doesn’t seem logical. and yeah, i would try, and yes, you do it at the shea ticket office.

Unfortunately Dykstra might be right.  Just got this via the goofy Flushing Flash email:

Rain Check Notice:
In the event a regulation game is not played due to weather then, unless indicated otherwise on the ticket, the rain check can be exchanged for the same price seat for any regular season home game at the same facility this or next season (including, in the case of NY Mets tickets only, at Citi Field in 2009), subject to availability, or (in the case of NY Mets tickets only) refunded during this or the next calendar year at the Mets’ home ballpark or by mail to the Mets Ticket Office. If issued complimentarily, this ticket shall have no value.

Unless indicated otherwise seems no good.  But it DOES seem 2009 is OK for those of us who can exchange.

What, Mets with inconsistent infomation, what?

Posted by mia  on  06/16  at  04:15 PM

Weird.  I assumed that that meant they couldn’t be returned/exchanged excepting rainouts.  What they don’t want is you buying the 7 pack for Opening day and then walking up and exchanging the other 6 games for games you actually want to go to, but I’ve never tried.  I know free tickets usually cant’ be exchanged no matter what, but those shouldn’t be the same.  And I was also under the impression that you could use them for next year, but who knows what the availibility will be for that.

couple of rain out pictures on my blog too, got a cool one of the cart driving through the lake in center and making waves.

And the mystery deepens. Now I’ve received an email from the Mets telling me to exchange the June 14th tickets.

The email says one thing; the tickets say exactly the opposite.

What a smoothly run organization.

I’ll call tomorrow and report back here so you guys can have the information for future reference. (My way of thanking you you for putting up with my little rant.)
